Bjørvika is the modern face of Oslo where you can see modern architecture and hi-rise buildings. Modern buildings plus the clear blue water of the Oslo fjord is a perfect combination and a perfect start to your day trip in Oslo.
From Bjørvika, walk through the different museums nearby and tourist attractions that are adjacent to each other.

I started the 1 day Oslo itinerary by visiting Munch Museum because this is a beautiful museum packed with the wonderful work of art of Edward Munch.
If you are an art lover or just curious about the famous “Scream” artwork of Edward Munch, then this a place to visit.
Not to mention its location is equally beautiful as that of the modern building and its display.
- Opera House
After wandering at the Munch Museum, take a walk nearby and you will see a building with a sloping side and that is the famous Oslo Opera House.
Norwegian theatrical shows, ballets, and other local and international entertainments are being held at the Oslo Opera House.
You can take a guided tour to visit the Opera House or you can just take a look at the inside and walk your way outside and up to the roof to get a 360-degree view of Oslo and Oslo Harbour.
- Visit Deichmanske Library
I know you might be wondering why would I include Deichmanske Library in the itinerary of Oslo for a day, but why not? This modern library and newly opened building give you a glimpse of what a modern library looks like.
It is crafted beautifully with a department that caters for everyone. If you have kids, then they will surely love the kids’ department which features not just books but also cosy small and big nooks to read and or play.
It has a coffee shop as well where you can relax after having a good read.
- Stroll at Karl Johans Street (Karl Johans gate)
After visiting the first three mentioned above, you can now stroll in the famous Karl Johans Gate (Karl Johans Street) either to shop for souvenirs, have some coffee or beer on the establishments you will pass by or just to wander around and see different architecture in the city.
As you walk up to Karl Johan, you will get to see Oslo Domkirke (Oslo Cathedral). Plus you will get to see the Norwegian Parliament and the Grand Cafe Hotel (Old hotel in Oslo) too as you go up on the street of Karl Johans.
- Stroll and relax at Spikersuppa (Nationaltheatre)
As you walk your way up at Karl Johans, you will reach Spikersuppa. Spikersuppa is a versatile park in Oslo. In the wintertime, it is where both young and old enjoy skating and during the summertime, people will enjoy sitting on the bench while drinking coffee and watching the fountain.
Kids also get to enjoy playing in the water as the fountains open during the summertime.
